Shredded Records Key to Tax Case


Do you know where your records are? How much are they really worth?

The facts:  A disputed tax bill.  A municipality working to collect on back sales tax.  A company with multiple locations.  Missing records.  And one big mess.

Following up on exactly where a sale took place so that the municipality could collect what it believed to be its share of taxes, a municipality found that many of the necessary tax documents had been destroyed.   Of course, the assessment landed in court, with a decision resting on just what those records may have included.

How much was that disputed assessment worth? $23 million.
